It’s been a little over two years since we first released Octodad: Dadliest Catch, and almost six years since we released the original Octodad. In that time Octodad: Dadliest Catch has sold over one million copies across PC/Mac/Linux, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Wii U, iOS, and Android. We’re absolutely stoked by the idea of that many people enjoying the frustrating follies of our floundering father simulator.
To commemorate the occasion, we’re working together with Limited Run Games to release PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita limited edition boxed copies of Octodad: Dadliest Catch! Orders for both will be up on June 19th, which coincidentally is Father’s Day. Those rad prints will have exclusive box art, as well as a cool insert you can only get with these versions of the game. And yes, they include the ‘Shorts’ update. Each boxed version of the game will be up for order on 06/19/16 for $24.99. Once these limited editions are sold out there will not be a re-print. So grab one while you can!
We’ve started work on our new game, and in doing so we’ve realized we need a little help to bring that new world to life. Young Horses is looking for a contract 3D Environment Artist to help us out in a 6 month contract. For more info please go to our jobs page.
Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a physics-based comedy adventure game created by Chicago indie studio Young Horses. It is the commercial successor to the student game “Octodad”, one of the Student Showcase winners of the 2011 Independent Games Festival.
The player controls Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about his life. Octodad’s existence is a constant struggle, as he must master mundane tasks with
his unwieldy boneless tentacles while simultaneously keeping his cephalopodan nature a secret from his human family.
Today we’re pleased to say you’ll be able to get your hands on the premier fatherhood simulator on Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft via the ID@Xbox self-publishing program as a digital title next week. On August 26th for $14.99 you’ll be able to get Octodad: Dadliest Catch on Xbox One including all of the ‘Shorts’ DLC included from the start. We’re also looking into possible alternate control schemes unique to Xbox One that we’ll talk about at a later date.
Ian McKinney’s Octodad (Nobody Suspects a Thing) is the catchy theme song for Octodad: Dadliest Catch used in the trailer and credits sequences for the game. The song began as a simple request to a talented friend for a theme song for our new Octodad game teaser and has spawned numerous versions, remixes, covers, and even a vinyl 7in.
My own attempts (and those of Young Horse’s own talented composer, Seth Parker) hadn’t quite arrived at capturing the magic we needed for a new teaser trailer.
Since the initial release of Octodad: Dadliest Catch on PC we’ve gotten numerous requests asking us to bring everyone’s favorite secret octopus to Xbox One. Today we’re pleased to say we’re doing just that! You’ll be able to get your hands on the premier fatherhood simulator this Summer on Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft via the ID@Xbox self-publishing program as a digital title.
We’re happy to announce that the success of previous Octodad releases has allowed us to bring the game to Nintendo’s WiiU! We’ve been working on the release with our friends at Panic Button, and with their expertise we’ll be able to release on the eShop this Summer.
